Why prices differ
Most of the price is the hospital: the theatre, a night or more in a bed, the anaesthetist. A mini tummy tuck is shorter and sometimes done as a day case, which is why it costs less. A full tummy tuck with a muscle repair takes longer, and adding liposuction to the flanks adds time again (€10,400 to €11,500). Extended and fleur-de-lis tummy tucks, done after major weight loss, are quoted individually after an examination and sit above a full tummy tuck.
Dublin and the rest of Ireland
Dublin prices sit inside the national range; surgeons in Cork, Limerick, Galway and Kerry quote similar figures. The surgeon and the hospital move the price more than the city.
Insurance, tax and paying
Health insurance plans normally exclude cosmetic surgery except to correct disfigurement from a congenital condition, an accident or disease. Check your own policy.
Revenue gives no tax relief on cosmetic surgery; relief may be possible where surgery corrects a health issue, at the standard rate of 20%.
Some clinics offer payment plans through a finance company. Read the APR and the total repaid, and never sign on the day of your consultation.
